Ground Floor

Hello...

I am really trying to get my foot in the door at a company in the Dallas/Fort Worth area doing software development.  I have always had a passion for software development and really enjoy working with software and learning programs inside and out.  Unfortunately I have never been able to do this as a profession as I would like.  No matter how much I try to increase my development skills it seems impossible when I have other daily responsibilities with my current job.  I have been trying to find a company that I can get involved with and just have not had any luck.

I have strong skills in system administration, end user support, advanced software support, sql dba and other technical skills.  I feel as though I am a strong asset to any company I work for as I am a hard worker and dedicate myself to anything I set my mind to.

I would love to jump right in to a junior development role, but I am not sure I am capable.  I might not be giving myself enough credit, but with all the technologies out there it seems to be an overwhelming feeling to think about.  I have experience doing VB 6 in the past and have worked with VB.NET and I am learning C#.NET for my final college class before I earn my degree.  I have worked with SQL on the DBA side and have beginner to intermediate skills on the developer side.  I am a very quick learner and feel that in the right environment with a little coaching and guidance I could be a truly great software developer.  I am willing and eager to learn and not afraid to ask for help and also figure things out on my own.  I just feel that if I cannot put my focus 100% on this career then I will never be able to succeed.  I cannot try to continue to perform my day job and learn development on the side, I learn best with real world issues I can have a path to a great result.

I am willing to help in anyway I can in any organization.  I am a great project manager as I am very detail oriented and have a great work ethic.  So maybe a liaison between development and support to get experience with the business with the ability to become involved in development.  Maybe an analyst that gathers requirements and converts to technical specifications.  Maybe quality assurance or testing.  I am open to where I can be most beneficial to the company and also the ability to grow and accomplish the dream of doing software development as a profession.

I guess to summarize, I am just trying to find that company out there that is willing to take a chance on a great worker and help me break in to the software development profession.

If anyone has any suggestions or comments for me I appreciate any and all feedback.

Regards

gb
